Working With Kids

A few summers ago I worked as an arts and crafts camp counselor for a summer camp in New England. I believe it was the experience I found in working here that led me to want to work with children in the future. I had a blast. The kids came from all different kinds of backgrounds, and it showed in their behavior. Sometimes, when a child would act up in a certain way over and over again, we would talk to the parent and realize that they had the same behavior!

I love working with children and babies. They see things in a different light and make different connections. Those children taught me a lot about what kind of parent I hope to be and what kind I will try to avoid. Because of this experience, I had worked with children in several positions since then and all of them have been pleasant. Although I really enjoy working with them, dealing with children is definitely not for the faint of heart. They often cry, fall and scrape knees, and if you’re dealing with babies, plan on changing a few diapers. However, if you want a rewarding job, being a nanny or a counselor for children and babies is the best job you’ll find.
