Visual Graphics and Images
Graphic design, in its purest sense, is communication through visual graphics and images. When most people think of graphic design, they think of someone studying to contribute graphics to websites or catalogs or some sort of business. When I think of graphic design, I think of all the designs we see on a daily basis that trigger thoughts and message and cause us to do certain things subliminally.
For example, stop signs. A giant red octagon tells us to stop even without reading what is inside of its shape. A yield sign tells us to slow down in the same way. Solid lines in the road tell us not to pass, while dotted ones tell us the opposite. And that’s just the road. Think of how many others signs you see throughout the day that communicate to you without speaking. Many signals are communicated to us without ever having to read words, and they are usually communicated at a quicker pace than if we were to sit there and read something instead.
