Teaching By Example

Teaching is one of the most difficult things to do, and do not think that just because you are a teacher you are exempt from this. Everyone is a teacher is some way or another. Some are obviously better than others, but each of us in our own way is a teacher. The typical teacher is someone who sits in front of a class full of students and lectures, provides feedback, etc., but think about what you just did when you showed your child how to do laundry or play a sport, you clearly are teaching them.

We are quick to attribute someone’s failures or incompetence to their learning ability, but many times it is because they simply were not taught well. Think of an employee or friend who seemed unable to finish a project or never could hold a job, usually we attribute that outcome to the individuals learning ability. However, it could come back to someone who did not realize they were a teacher, and he or she was teaching bad habits or just not giving them all the information. With so much knowledge in the world, everyone can learn something from one another and everyone can teach something to one another.
