One Step Forward in Men’s Health

In a recent study, scientists in San Francisco believe they have grown entire prostates in mice using only a single adult stem cell. Thus far the success of the study has not been proven in humans but does show a big step forward in prostate health for men. Researchers believe this could dramatically change what we know about prostate cancer.

Stem cells have captured the attention of scientists in recent years because of the potential to grow specific cells with the purpose of replacing damaged or diseases tissue. Though there is a large controversy around stem cell research due in part to the use of embryonic cells. These cells are known as pluripotent and have the ability to become any tissue in the human body. There are also unipotent stem cells which have the ability to be divided into specific cells.
