I just found out that men are supposed to have nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day in order to get the nutrition they need. This made me quickly check the nutrition practices of all the men in my life, including my boyfriend, dad, and brother. I was told that men have a high rate of diet-related diseases and having a diet stockpiled with fruits and vegetables will reduce the risk of contracted cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

I’ve found a little trick to help adapt my loved ones’ diets to this fact: I buy dried fruit packets for them. I find that if they (and I) have a bag of dried nectarines or apples with them, they will eat the entire thing. They’re just sweet enough that it tricks the brain into thinking it’s getting something high in sugar and fat. Nutrition can be a tricky, tricky thing to master.
