Effects of Addiction
I recently had a friend whose mother went to rehab after decades of alcohol abuse. I never knew when I was around her that she had a problem, rather, I thought everything in their family was fine. I have been hanging out with this friend for years and years and only recently did he tell me the full details of the story. Apparently she was sober most of the time I was in his life, however, before that time she struggled.
I no longer live near him but he still keeps me updated in his life. Since I have been gone, his father—her husband—has left her because she refuses to address her issues. She has now checked herself into rehab and attends a day program rather than a long term, overnight, program so that she can still go to work. She appears to be doing well now, but my only wish is that she went earlier to shorten the years and years of negative influence her habit had on the family.
