Computers: Ten Years Ago
We got our very first family computer when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I remember getting off the bus with my older brother and finding a huge cow-spotted box on our deck. My brother and I were so excited to open the box and try out our new toy.
We thought it was so cool that we had our very own computer to play games on. When my parents ordered the computer, I wonder if they realized that it would be the first of many, and the very beginning of our dependence on computers. Looking back, that spotted Gateway box brought us so much excitement, but now I’m sure we would just consider it slow, outdated, and useless. I remember asking Keith, my brother, to turn on the computer so I could play some dirt bike game. It was 2-D and you could slow down or speed up to make it over jumps, but that’s it. I thought that game was so fun! I would probably laugh if I saw that game today at its simplicity compared to modern say computer games.
