Unfortunately many people receive false diagnoses of cancer and either undergo further and unnecessary diagnostic tests, or aggressive chemotherapy before the error is found. The emotional and physical impact of such an error can be catastrophic to a patient and his or her family.
Far more common, however, is the misdiagnosis of actual cancer. The emotional and physiological impact on a patient who finds out too late they have terminal cancer is equally catastrophic.
Most types of cancer are curable if diagnosed early. In fact, many can be diagnosed early because they produce signs and symptoms that are easily recognizable to most well trained physicians.
