Keep In Contact

Networking. The age old art of who you know is better than what you know. Don’t think networking is important? Think about your employment history. How many of those jobs did you get because of someone you knew? Now think about this, how many of those jobs did you hear about from a friend or colleague? Now do you see the importance of networking?

My friend just found out his company is closing their doors this weekend, and he has been contacting everyone he knows in the hopes of finding a new job. He has even contacted his third grade teacher in hopes that she knows of something for him. Keeping a list of contacts that you meet throughout your life is a great way to network. Ask for business cards, and then write down the person’s contact info and how you met them in your day planner, in your computer, or keep it in your phone. Next time you need to use some valuable networking connections, you’ll have them.
