Warning! The use of Bextra has been linked to an increased rate of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, and even death.
Recent reports in the media regarding the dangers of COX-2 inhibitors have raised concerns over Bextra, and the cardiovascular problems that can occur with its usage. Bextra is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication that targets the enzyme COX-2 to relieve the stiffness, pain, and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis. It was recalled by the FDA on April 7, 2005 due to increased risk or a fatal connection to heart attacks, strokes, and adverse skin reactions, including blistering, sores, swelling, cough, and fever. Bextra has been linked with other medications in the COX-2 family: Celebrex and Vioxx. Vioxx has been withdrawn from the market and Celebrex carries a black box warning.
